Overview

How it works

Your feature is delivered over the internet, straight to your car. Quick one-time setup, redeem your code online, then the car downloads and installs the feature by itself next time it's on with an internet connection.

Set up once

Copy our setup file to an SD/USB stick and insert it in the car; the car installs a tiny helper by itself.

Redeem your code

Enter your redeem code and your car's VIN on our activation page; this links the feature to your car.

Drive & done

Switch on the car with mobile data; it checks in, installs, restarts, and the feature is active.

Good to know: after the one-time setup, any future features you buy need only Step 3 (Redeem) — no card, no re-install.

Before you start — what you'll need

Download & prepare your card

On your computer or phone, open the download link we sent you:

  1. Insert your SD/USB into your computer.
  2. Unzip the downloaded file and copy ALL of its contents to the TOP LEVEL (root) of the card — not inside a folder.
  3. Safely eject the card or USB stick.
Important: copy the files to the root (you should see them immediately when you open the card) and use a FAT32-formatted card.

SD card or USB stick

Either works. The card only needs to hold a small setup file. You will remove it again after the one-time install.

★ On a Mac (macOS)

  1. Open Applications → Utilities → Disk Utility and format the drive to FAT32 (MS-DOS FAT). If the drive is bigger than 32 GB, use Raspberry Pi Imager (choose Erase → FAT32).
  2. Extract the downloaded package with Keka or 7-Zip — NOT the built-in Archive Utility.
  3. Copy all the unzipped contents to the root of the drive.
  4. IMPORTANT for Mac users — remove Apple's hidden files before ejecting, or the car will reject the card. In Terminal run: dot_clean -m /Volumes/YOUR_DRIVE_NAME (replace YOUR_DRIVE_NAME with your drive's name), or use BlueHarvest (free trial). macOS silently adds files like .DS_Store and ._ copies the car can't read.
  5. Eject the drive.

Install on your car (one-time, ~3–5 min)

Installs a small helper so the car can receive features over the internet. You only do this once. You do not need to open any menu — the update starts by itself.

  1. Start the car — engine running or ignition on.
  2. Insert the prepared SD/USB. The update starts automatically the moment you insert it, no matter which screen the car is showing; the red update screen appears on its own.
  3. Wait for the “update successful” screen, then remove the card. Do not remove the card or switch off the car while the red screen is showing.

Safe by design: the helper only lets your car fetch the features you've paid for. It changes nothing until you redeem a code, and everything can be reversed.

Redeem your code

On any phone or computer, open our activation page:

  1. Type your Redeem code (e.g. ABCD-1234).
  2. Type your car's VIN (17 characters).
  3. Press Activate.

That's it. Your feature is now linked to your car. The page shows the status — first “Waiting for your car to check in”, then “Installed & active”.
Double-check the VIN — a feature is locked to the exact VIN you enter, so make sure it matches your car.

Drive with internet

Switch on your car with an internet connection — the built-in SIM/mobile data, or a phone hotspot your car is connected to.

You don't need to touch anything. The car checks in with our server and downloads your feature; installs automatically and restarts itself once; usually within a few minutes — if signal is poor it finishes on a later drive.

Tip: park somewhere with good mobile signal for the first few minutes so the download can complete.

★ No built-in data? Connect the car to your phone's Wi-Fi hotspot

  1. Turn on your phone's Personal Hotspot. In the car, open Phone, then open the menu (top-right) and select Device manager.

  2. In Device manager, select WiFi.

  3. Select Search for WiFi Hotspot (Connect PCM to WiFi Hotspot), pick your phone's hotspot from the list, and enter its password. The car is now online.

Confirm it's active

Re-open the activation page from Step 3.

When your car has installed the feature, the status changes to:

If something doesn't work

Red update screen doesn't appear
Make sure files are on the ROOT (not a folder) and the card is FAT32; re-copy, then re-insert with the car on.
Redeem page says “invalid code”
Check for typos and that you're using the code from this purchase; codes are for one car only.
Status stays “waiting for check-in”
The car needs internet. Drive with mobile data or hotspot on in an area with good signal; give it a few minutes or another drive.
“VIN mismatch”
The VIN you redeemed doesn't match. Re-check the 17-character VIN and redeem again.
Feature not visible after install
The car restarts itself during install. Wait for a full restart, then check again.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take? One-time card setup takes about 3–5 minutes. After redeeming, it usually installs within a few minutes of driving with internet.
Do I open a menu to start the install? No. It starts automatically the instant you insert the card.
Does it use much mobile data? Most features are small; a few larger ones prefer Wi-Fi — your purchase email will say.
Can I buy more features later? Yes. Just redeem the new code (Step 3).
Is it safe/reversible? Yes. Features can be turned off again from our side.
Do I need to keep the card in? No. Remove it after the one-time setup.
